Hisao Kameda
received the B.Sc. degree in physics in 1965, and the M.Sc. and D.Sc. degrees
for his work in computer science in 1967 and 1970, respectively, all from
the University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan.
In 1970, he became a Research Associate at the University of Tokyo. In
1971, he became an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science,
the University of Electro-Communications, Tokyo. In 1973, he became an
Associate Professor, there. In 1973/74 and in 1974/75, he conducted research
in IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, and in University of Toronto, under
the support of IBM and National Research Council of Canada, respectively.
In 1985, he became a Professor of the University of Electro-Communications.
He served as a Chairman of the Department, there. In 1992, he became a
Professor in the Institute of Information Sciences and Electronics, University
of Tsukuba, Tsukuba Science City, Japan. Since 2006, he has been a Professor
Emeritus of University of Tsukuba.
He has been conducting research on operating system design principles,
operating system scheduling, performance measurement and queueing analysis
of computer systems, software reliability, distributed processing, etc.
He has also studied some performance and logical problems of parallel computers
and transaction processing. He has continuously been interested in general
systems implications of computer systems.
He served as Editors for journals published by the Information Processing
Society of Japan. He also served as the Chairman of the Study Group on
Queueing Systems of the Operations Research Society of Japan, and as the
Chairman of SIGOS (Operating System) and the founding Chairman of the Study
Group on System Evaluation of the Information Processing Society of Japan. He was on the board of committee of various international and domestic
conferences. He is now a member of TC7 (System Modelling and Optimization)
of IFIP (International Federation of Information Processing).
He is a fellow of IEEE (the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.), a fellow of IEICE (the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication
Engineers of Japan), a fellow of IPSJ (the Information Processing Society of Japan), and a fellow of ORSJ (the Operations Research Society of Japan), in recognition of
his research contributions.
